August U. Pabst is the great-grandson of Capt. Frederick Pabst, who in the 1880’s transformed the Phillip Best Brewing Company into one of the world’s largest brewers, Pabst Brewing Company. The captain’s son, Frederick Pabst, began assembling farmsteads in western Waukesha County in 1906, eventually known as “Pabst Farms”.

From 1956 through 1965 Augie ran Pabst Motors, a Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Fiat and Triumph dealership. During the same period, Augie enjoyed a successful career as a champion race car driver. He won the USAC road racing championship (1959) and the Sports Car Club of America championship ( 1960). He is a three-time winner of the Road America 500 race, held at Elkahart Lake. Augie continues to compete in vintage care races held at various sites throughout the United States.

Upon leaving professional racing in 1966, Augie served as the Executive Vice President and director of the Pabst Brewing Company until 19873. In 1984 he was named Chairman and President of Pabst Farms Inc. He retired from Pabst Farms in 2005. Augie currently serves on the board of directors of Road America and the Capt. Frederick Pabst Mansion. He is a past director of Pharmacia P.L. Biochemicals, M & I Bank of Oconomowoc, Rogers Memorial Hospital, Univest, Summerfest, the Pabst Theater and the Natural Resources Founddation of Wisconsin. Started on June 24th 1910 as Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili (ALFA) making cars both on contract to others, as well as with their own badges, Alfa was born.  Soon, Nicola Romeo bought into the company and took over as managing director and the name became what we know today, Alfa Romeo.  In the early years, Alfa Romeo became a power in the motorsports racing, known for their fast and well handling cars.  This attracted both spectators to the races and many of the best drivers to the teams.  Names like Varzi, Campari, Fangio, Ferrari, Pintacuda, and many others drove and won many races in Alfa Romeos.  One of the greatest victories in Formula 1 / Grand Prix racing came in 1935 when one of the greatest drivers of all time, the flying mantuan, Tazio Nuvolari drove an Alfa P3 (currently owned by Jon Shirley) to victory against the faster, more powerful Auto Unions and Mercedes teams in the German Grand Prix.  Over the years of both track and road racing Alfa Romeo became legendary, but also built great road cars.  During the 30's and 40's early 50's, only the rich and famous drove Alfas, which had bodies made by some of the greatest coachbuilders in the world.  Touring, Zagato, Bertone, Pininfarina and others each worked to create rolling works of art.  Some of the greatest examples are the flowing clean lines of the Touring bodied cars.  The 8C2900B Lungo, or 8C2300 MM are are as stunning today as they were in the late 30's.  From the late 50's and through the 70's, Alfa was the race car of choice for many in the 2 ltr or smaller races.  They were affordable, fast, and dependable.  They dominated there TransAm racing divisions many times over the years.  Their success is extremely impressive considering how competititive the field was with great entries from Datsun, BMW, Ford, and others.  Today, Alfa still sells exciting cars around the world, but only limited models in the USA.  You'll find the latest examples of Alfa Romeo in the 8cCompetizione.  There are only 84 of these sold in the USA and 9 reside here in the great Pacific Northwest.  Enjoy the 100 years of passion that is Alfa Romeo of the past, present, and hopefully a long future.
